Siener in die suburbs

by Du Plessis, P. G.

Description

SIENER IN DIE SUBURBS is a play that is set in the suburbs of Johannesburg (South Africa) in the 1970's. The play is divided in three acts. Ma (mother) is the protector of her family, since Pa (father) has been missing for several years. The daughter, Tiemie, wishes to escape from the suburbs, but she falls pregnant with the baby of a trashy local biker -or so it is assumed- Jakes. The brother, Tjokkie, has the ability to predict the future, but at a great cost to him. Tjokkie is forced by the other opportunistic characters to see the future for their own selfish reasons. The vision of Tjokkie is not clear in meaning and has tragic consequences.
