De loteling

Het verhaal van Jan Braems, een boerenzoon, die uitgeloot wordt om legerdienst te vervullen en te arm is om dit af te kopen. Door het gebrek aan hygiëne en de miserabele omstandigheden in het leger wordt Jan blind. Zijn vriendin Trien laat hem echter niet in de steek.
The Story of Jan Braems, a farmer's son, who is chosen by drawing of lots to go in military service and who is too poor to buy it off. As a consequence of the lack of hygiene and the miserable conditions in the army, Jan becomes blind. But his girlfriend Trien does't let him down.
